What is Mitochondrial Disease?

Imagine the city you live in during a black-out. At best, your community is working far below optimum efficiency. This is life with a Mitochondrial disease. This is Evan’s life.

Evan is an eight year old boy who suffers from a rare degenerative disease known as Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy. Mitochondrial diseases result from failures of the mitochondria, essentially the batteries of our cells. Mitochondria are responsible for creating more than 90% of the energy needed by the body to sustain life. When the mitochondria processes fail, less and less energy is generated. Cell injury and even cell death follow. If this process is repeated throughout the body, whole systems begin to fail and life is severely compromised. There is no cure.

Help us help Evan. Join us FORE Evan.

The Fore Evan Foundation helps the family of Evan provide the for the daily care and medical needs of two children diagnosed with mitochondrial disease.
